Karate Team USA dojo offers unique programs for children, designed to be fun while at the same time providing physical, mental, emotional, and social growth.
Our programs augment and enhance your child’s performance at school. This is achieved by improving motivation, direction, self-discipline, self-confidence, mental alertness, goal setting, and achievement skills. Our unique Academic Achievement Enhancement Program encourages good grades by awarding stars (which may be worn on their uniform) and Certificate of Achievement to all who either earn good grades or improve their grades during each reporting period. Many parents have attributed their child’s improved performance at school to our programs.
At Karate Team USA, young people learn that through dedication and perseverance all worthwhile goals in life are possible. Your child will learn to set and achieve three levels of goals: short-term, intermediate, and long-term. All three are important in achieving success in martial arts and in life. The development of goal-setting skills in your child begins when he or she tests for his or her belt and continues through each subsequent promotion examination, which is held every three to four months. Every student’s ultimate goal is to become a Black Belt. This long-range goal serves as an important tool for building desires, tenacity, and the importance of follow-through in everything they do in life.
During their promotion examinations, we evaluate much more than mere physical skill. Promotions are based upon degree of improvement (relative to each student’s own, unique potential), amount of effort, self-control and discipline, as demonstrated in their daily lives – at home, in school, and at the dojo.
We constantly stress to all students that their martial arts skills can never be used abusively or offensively. They are only to be used in their defense or to aid a person in need. Since children learn more with their eyes than they do with their ears, our Chief Instructor insists that his assistants always be outstanding role models and that they live by the Student Creed.
Child abduction protection is a unique, highly specialized, and increasingly important area not normally covered in martial arts programs. We are proud to have been recognized as one of the Bay Area’s leaders in this area. Child abduction protection is included as an on-going part of our children’s classes. The founder of Karate Team USA (formerly the original Karate USA) Master Tony Reyes was a law enforcement officer with an advance P.O.S.T. training certificate. His tradition is carried on by several generations of his former students turned instructors.
Though it may seem like we expect a lot from our students, our students and parents expect a lot from us as well. Your opinion is very important to us so please, fill out a Suggestion Form in the back of this handbook and tell us what you think. More forms are located in the front office. Also, each quarter, we will be conducting a survey. This survey will allow us to see how we are progressing and teaching. Good or bad, we want to know what you think. We will always take everything into consideration. There is always room for improvement in our continually changing world.
